Tents
Without doubt, the most important part of any camping kit is the tent. For the camper, this humble combination of sheeting, metal, twine and plastic acts as our surrogate home on any trip, providing us with shelter from the elements, warmth and a place to rest.
Quite simply, it is because of the advances in tent manufacture that camping has become such a hugely popular leisure activity, rather than a stern test of human endurance.
There is no easy answer to finding the right tent. For the solitary traveller moving from campsite to campsite, a small one man tent is ideal as it provides the portability required. For a larger group, say of a typical family who are intending to stay on a campsite for a long period, then something much larger is required, with additional room for the children.
